Adding and Removing Programs

September 20, 2009

This feature which gives you access to a large database of applications and easy installation for them all is the reason i use ubuntu. It is hard enough to find a suitable application for what you want in Linux, and even harder to install it. That is what makes ubuntu’s add/remove feature so special. So open the add/remove application

and in the search area type “web browser” check the box nest to the application titled Web Browser. Then hit apply changes, and follow instructions given. The program should install itself.

Making an Installation CD

September 19, 2009

To make an ubuntu cd you will need three things; a blank cd, a computer capable of burning cds, a cd burning application, and the ubuntu ISO file.
InfraRecorder: http://infrarecorder.org/
Ubuntu ISO: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
Once downloaded and installed open your infrredcorder and click the Burn Image button. Then select the iso file that you have downloaded and burn that to your blank cd. Finally you have an ubuntu cd, to install ubuntu follow the instructions in my post titled “Installing Ubuntu”

Installing Ubuntu

September 19, 2009

To install ubuntu you will need a cd. Cd’s can be obtained in a variety of ways, you can make one, you can buy one, or you can order one for free at ubuntu’s website. Visit ubuntu’s website https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ for information on requesting a free cd. To make a cd see my post titled “Making an Installation CD“. Once you have the cd start your computer up and insert the cd after the computer has completely started up. Then wait thirty seconds, if no auto-run of wubi.exe comes up you will have to open wubi, the ubuntu installer, yourself. Go to your computer, open your cd drive, and double click the wubi.exe icon. Select the installation type you want (I suggest installing inside windows). Follow all the prompts the application gives you and ubuntu will install itself on you computer. Enjoy your ubuntu!
